Travis Manion Poem

Travis Manion

It is hard to find a person so good
Clean and strong and brave
Who has what it takes to be a Hero
And do honor to his name

Travis Manion
He was willing to risk his life in Iraq
To stop the enemy and help people be free
He didn't take American freedom for granted
Do we?

In the heat of battle
Two men went down and lay hurt on the ground
Travis could have stayed under cover at that moment
He did not have to go and help

Travis ran out into the thick of the fire
Pulling the soldier back to safety
He left cover again to save another
It was the last thing that he did on this earth

Travis took his last breath on that battlefield
Looking up into the face of his fellow soldier
He closed his eyes, and when he opened them again
Another face looked down at him, the gunfire was gone
Travis was safe in the lap of God

Some kids waste their lives, but Travis did not
His life was so important
I read about history and all of the wars we have fought
To protect our freedom
I know that America is free today because of people like
Travis Manion

I really wanted to meet him, and I still do
When I get to Heaven someday, I am going to find Travis
And I am going to thank him
For protecting my country
And for being a Hero
