Team Travis Marine Corps Marathon
To Friends and Family of Travis Manion:
This past spring, Travis began receiving messages about the Marine Corps Marathon on his email. He contacted his mother from Iraq and said, "Please tell Dad to sign us up for the Marathon. I really want to do it this year!" His father immediately signed them both up; as active duty in the Marine Corps they were accepted before registration even began. After receiving his number online, Travis wrote, "I'm in, Dad! I'm psyched...."
Colonel Thomas Manion will be wearing both his and Travis' numbers as he leads "Team Travis" in fulfilling his son's wish to run the Marine Corps Marathon 2007. The Marine Corps Marathon will take place in Washington, DC the weekend of October 27-28th, 2007. There will be over 100 "Team Travis" runners in the Marathon, as well as a group running the MCM 10K, and a large contingent of friends and family of Travis Manion who will support the runners and be part of the "Team Travis" social events throughout the weekend.
RUNNING THE MARINE CORPS MARATHON - for Team Travis
The Marathon Team includes members of 1st Lt. Travis L. Manion's MTT group who are still in Iraq but will be home before October, as well as members of his Recon Division with whom he served during his first tour in Iraq. There will be classmates from the U.S. Naval Academy, La Salle College High School, fellow service members from the Marines, the Navy, and other branches of the armed services, and Travis's relatives and friends from Doylestown, PA.
There is a group of runners who are joining Team Travis to also celebrate the memory of 1st Lt. Colby Umbrell, the Army airborne ranger and Doylestown's other son who was killed in Iraq 4 days after Travis.
Many people who have been inspired by Travis Manion's unwavering determination in the face of physical challenge are making the commitment to run a marathon for the first time in his honor.
RUNNING THE MCM 10K RACE - for Team Travis
Jannette Manion will be leading Team Travis' presence in the MCM 10k Race. So far there are over 75 members of Team Travis running the 10k.
