SSGT Joseph Kane, USA
Sergeant Joseph M. Kane
KIA October 14, 2006
Joey Kane
Joseph (Joey) Kane came as a blessing into his family on day six of his life, becoming the adopted son of Joseph and Mary Kane and the baby brother of their daughter Joanne. He attended St. Charles Borromeo parochial school and graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School, both in Drexel Hill, PA before joining the Army in 1991.
On October 14, 2006, Army Staff Sergeant Joseph M. Kane was killed by an improvised explosive device near Baghdad, Iraq while serving with the 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division. SGT Kane left behind his parents, sister Joanne (Mike) Vogel, two nephews Michael and Andrew and niece Amanda. Also, his wife Michelle, and three children Mikayla, Daniel, and Brendan. He is laid to rest in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Port Orchard, outside Seattle, Washington.

Just before leaving for Iraq, Joseph Kane bought a “fixer-upper” house and he was excited about making it into a real home on his return. As his father relates, he had become a man his entire family was especially proud of – he is remembered by friends and colleagues as devoted to his family, friends and anyone who needed help.
His parents continue his spirit of service by working with Operation First Response, helping wounded and disabled service members and their families. Today, Army Sergeant William Smith is serving a Mission Continues Fellowship in his honor, also keeping his spirit of service alive by volunteering with the U.S. Army Cadet Corps and helping inspire future members of the military.
